- Where a member is medically unstable and requires urgent transfer to the nearest appropriate facility capable of providing stabilising treatment, emergency medical transport will be authorised to that facility.
- Where a member is clinically unstable and appropriate treatment is not available in-country, emergency transportation will be provided to the closest suitable destination.
- Where South Africa is the closest or most appropriate destination for emergency care, emergency medical transport to South Africa will be provided.
- Where a member has been clinically stabilised (not requiring emergency transportation care) and appropriate treatment was provided in-country or at the closest suitable destination that was not South Africa, onward travel or return travel to South Africa no longer falls part of the emergency medical transport benefit.
