CAMAF (Chartered Accountants (SA) Medical Aid Fund) Social Media accounts are managed by the CAMAF Social Team, on behalf of CAMAF.

We may occasionally use automation (such as tools which generate tweets from RSS feeds) but the intention is not to dominate the messages and/or information posted on any of our Social Media platforms.

If you become a fan of CAMAF (‘follow’, ‘like’ or ‘join’ us), you can expect regular content covering any of the following:

AVAILABILITY

We will update and monitor our Social Media accounts during office hours, Monday to Friday, and will attempt to provide the relevant response should CAMAF deem this necessary within a reasonable time period (24 – 48 hours).

Some of these platforms may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to downtime.

CAMAF reserves the right to disengage from some or all of these Social Media platforms at any time without cause or notification.

REPLIES, COMMENTS AND MESSAGING

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and endeavor to join the conversation where possible. However, we are not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive.

The CAMAF Social Team reads all Replies, Comments and Messages and ensures that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people.

We cannot engage on issues that may be deemed unsuitable and/or inappropriate, nor can we answer questions which are in contradiction of our registered rules.

Any unsuitable and/or inappropriate content will be removed and whoever placed this may be blocked from future participation on any or all of these social platforms.

DEFINITIONS
The Application shall mean the software provided by the Fund to offer services related to the Fund, to be used on selected Apple iOS, Android OS and Windows devices and any upgrades from time to time and any other software or documentation which enables the use of the Application.
The Appterm shall mean the terms and conditions of use of the Fund’s Application for mobile devices.
The Fund shall mean the Chartered Accountants (SA) Medical Aid Fund (CAMAF).
The Rules shall mean the registered Rules of the Fund.
Any word or expression used in the Appterms bears the meaning assigned to it in the Rules of the Fund.

 

GENERAL
By installing the Application, you agree to be bound by the Appterms. Please review them carefully before installation and/or acceptance.

 

DATA PROTECTION
Personal information of you and your registered dependants, which you have supplied to the Fund or which the Fund has obtained lawfully, is available on the Application.
Any personal information of you and your dependants available on the Application and which you supply to the Fund when using the Application will be used by the Fund in accordance with the Rules and the Privacy Policy set out below and subject to legislation
By using the Application, you guarantee that you have obtained the necessary consent from your registered dependants registered with the Fund to view and supply personal information pertaining to them.

 

WEBSITE
The Application allows you to access certain functionality available on the website of the Fund, www.camaf.co.za. Such access shall be governed by the Website Terms and Conditions of Use.

 

PROPRIETARY RIGHTS AND LICENCE
All trademarks, copyright, database rights and other intellectual property rights of any nature in the Application together with the underlying software code are owned either directly by the Fund or by the Fund’s licensors.
You do not obtain any trademarks, copyright, database rights or any other intellectual property rights of any nature or licences by using the Application.

 

CONDITIONS OF USE
You will not and you will not allow third parties on your behalf to

Attempt to copy, reproduce, alter, modify, reverse engineer, disassemble, decompile, transfer, exchange or translate the Application; or
Create derivative works of the Application of any kind whatsoever.
The Application is currently made available to you free of charge for your personal, non-commercial use. The Fund reserves the right to amend or withdraw the Application, or charge for the Application or service provided to you in accordance with these Appterms, at any time and for any reason.
You acknowledge that the terms of the agreement with your mobile network provider (Mobile Provider) will continue to apply when using the Application. As a result, you may be charged by the Mobile Provider for access to network connection services for the duration of the connection while accessing the Application or any such third party charges as may arise. You accept responsibility for any such charges that arise.
If you are not the bill payer for the mobile device being used to access the Application, you will be assumed to have received permission from the bill payer for accessing and using the Application.

 

AMENDMENTS
The Fund may in its sole discretion amend the Appterms and/or the Application from time to time.

 

TERMINATION
The Fund may in its sole discretion terminate the use of the Application at any time by giving notice of termination to you.
Upon termination of use of the Application,
The rights granted to you in terms of the Appterms shall terminate; and
You must cease using of the Application.

 

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
In no event shall the Fund be liable for any direct, indirect, special, punitive or consequential losses or damages or penalties of whatsoever kind arising out of your use of or access to the Application, including loss of profit or the like whether or not in the contemplation of the parties, whether based on breach of contract, derelict (including negligence), product liability or otherwise.
The Fund shall not be liable to you for any damage or alteration to your equipment including but not limited to computer equipment, handheld devices or mobile telephones as a result of the installation or use of the Application.

 

DISCLAIMERS
The Application is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind.
Successful submission of claims, captured images, documentation or requests via the Application do not constitute processing or validation of the information or guarantee of payment of claims or authorisation of procedures or medicine.

CONSENT
You consent to the collection, processing and use of your and your registered dependants personal information by the Fund as described in the Rules and the Privacy Policy.
You guarantee to the extent that it may be required by law that you have the necessary consent from your dependants to provide the consent as set out in this section on their behalf

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS (SA) MEDICAL AID FUND PROMOTION OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT NO 2 OF 2000 PRIVATE BODY MANUAL

1. INTRODUCTION
CAMAF was established in 1951, and is registered as a restricted medical scheme with the Council for Medical Schemes under the Medical Schemes Act, 1998.

The purpose of this manual is to comply with section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, number 2 of 2000 (the Act).

 

The Act was passed to give effect to the constitutional right of access to any information held by the State and any information that is held by another person and that is required to the exercise or protection of any rights. CAMAF is a private body in terms of the Act.

 

The right to information under the Act is not absolute, and any requester is required (a) to show that the record is required for the exercise or protection of any rights, (b) to comply with the procedural requirements in the Act. Access to information requested must not be restricted under chapter four of part three of the Act examples of such restrictions are protection of privacy, protection of commercial, confidential or privileged information etc.

3. GUIDE OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN HUMAN RIGHTS AND COMMISSION

 

In terms of section 10 of the Act, the South African Human Rights Commission is required to compile a guide to assist a person wishing to exercise any right contemplated in the Act.

4. RECORDS AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF THE MEDICAL SCHEMES ACT, 1998 WITHOUT A PERSON HAVING TO REQUEST ACCESS IN TERMS OF THE ACT

 

4.1 Copies the following records of CAMAF are available on request by a beneficiary (as defined in the Medical Schemes Act) of CAMAF, after payment of any fees determined by the rules of CAMAF:
4.1.1 the rules of the fund (section 41 (1) (a));
4.1.2 the audited annual financial statements of CAMAF together with the report of the Board of Trustees to the Registrar (section 41 (1) (b) read with section 37(1) and 37 (5));
4.1.3 the management accounts (which accompanied the annual financial statements) in respect of every benefit option offered by the medical scheme indicating the financial performance thereof and the number of members enrolled per option. (section 41 (1) (c) read with section 47 (4) (d)).
4.2 In terms of section 41 (2) of the Medical Schemes Act, a beneficiary is entitled to inspect, without charge, at the registered office of the medical scheme the documents referred to in clause 4.1 above and to make extracts therefrom.
4.3 In terms of section 41 (3) of the Medical Schemes Act, any person may, upon payment of the prescribed fee, inspect at the office of the Registrar any document referred to in clause 4.1 above and may make an extract thereof. This Act provides for the Registrar to exempt any person from payment of this fee if the document is required for the purpose of furthering the public interest.

5. DESCRIPTION OF RECORDS HELD BY CAMAF

 

5.1 Scheme records
5.1.1 rules of the fund;
5.1.2 the latest audited financial statements;
5.1.3 the latest management accounts;
5.1.4 contract with service providers, such as administrators, managed health care organisations, auditors, attorneys, actuaries, investment managers and other providers of service;
5.1.5 employment contracts;
5.1.6 sundry contract such as nondisclosure agreements;
5.1.7 insurance contracts;
5.1.8 agendas and minutes of trustee/board meetings and subcommittee meetings;
5.1.9 attendance registers for meetings;
5.1.10 the procedure for the disputes committee;
5.1.11 correspondence with members and other parties.
5.2 Records of beneficiaries
5.2.1 personal details relating to beneficiaries, including but not limited to name, address, employer, date of birth, number of dependents, benefit option. selected, claims histories, marital status and gender;
5.2.2 medical claim details relating to beneficiaries, including but not limited to date of treatments, amount claimed, nature of treatments, medication prescribed and hospital admissions. Certain of the above records and, in particular those containing personal information relating to beneficiaries of CAMAF and agreements with CAMAF, may be subject to an obligation of confidentiality or to the confidentiality requirements of the Medical Schemes Act and/or the Act. In terms of section 57 (4) of the Medical Schemes Act, the Board of Trustees of CAMAF is obliged to take all reasonable steps to protect the confidentiality of medical records concerning any member’s state of health.

 

6. THE REQUEST PROCEDURES

 

6.1 Forms and fees
6.1.1 a request for information must be made in the prescribed form, must be addressed to the Principal Officer of CAMAF, and must be submitted together with the prescribed fee.
6.1.2 The prescribed request form and details regarding the prescribed fees are available from the Principal Officer of CAMAF and from the South African Human Rights Commission, whose contact details are set out above.
6.2 Form of request.
6.2.1 The requester must use the prescribed form to make the request for access to a record. This must be made to the Principal Officer of CAMAF. This request must be made to the address, fax number or electronic mail address of CAMAF.
6.2.2 The requester must provide sufficient detail on the request form to enable the Principal Officer to identify the record and the requester. The requester should also indicate which form of access is required. The requester should also indicate if it requires notice of the decision of the Principal Officer in any manner, other than in writing.
6.2.3 The requester must identify the right that is sought to be exercised or to be protected and provide an explanation of why the requested record is required for the exercise or protection of that right.
6.2.4 If a request is made in behalf of another person, the requester must submit proof of the capacity in which the requester is making the request to the satisfaction of the Principal Officer of CAMAF.
6.3 Fees
6.3.1 The Act provides for two types of fees:
6.3.1.1 A request fee, which will be a standard fee; and
6.3.1.2 An access fee, which must be calculated by taking into account reproduction costs, search and preparation time and cost, as well as postal costs.
6.3.2 A requester who seeks access to a record containing personal information about that requester is not required to pay the request fee. Every other requester, who is not a personal requester, must pay the required request fee.
6.3.3 The Principal Officer of CAMAF must by notice, require the requester to pay the prescribed fee, if any, before further processing the request.
6.3.4 The requester may lodge an application to court relating to the payment of these request fees.
6.3.5 After the Principal Officer of CAMAF has made a decision on the request, the requester must be notified in the required form.
6.3.6 If the request is granted then a further access fee must be paid for the search, reproduction, preparation and for any time, in excess of the prescribed hours, required to search and prepare the record for disclosure.
6.4 Availability of the manual.
6.4.1 This manual is available for inspection at the offices of CAMAF, free of charge. It can also be accessed using the universal resource locator, www.camaf.co.za.
6.4.2 It should be noted that the manual accessible on CAMAF’s website, does not include the request forms all the fee structure. The request forms and fee structure can be obtained via the SAHRC website, details of which are set out above, or via the website of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, which website can be accessed using universal resource locator, www.justice.gov.za

  1. Introduction
    CAMAF trustees, committee members (trustee and non-trustee), the Principal Officer and all CAMAF employees are required, under this Code of Conduct, to behave at all times in a way which upholds CAMAF’s commitment to the principles and practice of fairness, openness, integrity and accountability in all dealings with stakeholders.CAMAF trustees, committee members (trustee and non-trustee), the Principal Officer and all CAMAF employees are also required to behave at all times in a manner becoming the ideals and ethical standards of the accounting profession.
  2. The Code
    The Code of Conduct requires that a trustee, committee member (trustee and non trustee), the Principal Officer and all CAMAF employees must, in the course of performing any CAMAF function or duty:
  1. Behave honestly and with integrity.
  2. Act with care and diligence.
  3. Treat everyone with respect and courtesy, and without any form of harassment.
  4. Comply with all applicable South African laws.
  5. Comply with any lawful and reasonable direction given by individuals who have authority to give such direction.
  6. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about any dealings which contain sensitive information.
  7. Disclose and take reasonable steps to avoid, any conflict of interest (real or apparent).
  8. Not provide false or misleading information in response to a request for information that is made for official purposes.
  9. Not make improper use of:
    1. inside or confidential information; or
    2. any trustees, committee members or Principle Officer’s duties, status, power or authority in order to gain or seek to gain, a benefit or advantage for an individual or for any other person.
  10. Disclose any gifts or entertainment events received and accepted (see paragraph 3 below).
  11. Act with integrity in the submission of all claims including time reports, expenses, meeting attendance and consultations.
  12. Protect intellectual property and data privacy.
  13. Act professionally in all types of communication with the media.
  • Gifts Policy The Code of Conduct requires that CAMAF trustees, committee members (trustee and non-trustee), the Principal Officer and all CAMAF employees and members of their immediate family, should not accept gifts of money of any kind, discounts or any form of favoured treatment to or from any person associated with any entity currently or potentially doing business with CAMAF. However, it is recognized that from time to time service providers may offer some form of hospitality, e.g. business lunch, golf day, etc. Invitations to such events may be accepted.
  • Skills Enhancement
    The Scheme recognises that:
  1. It operates in a dynamic and competitive business environment with continued change in personal skill sets, legislative, regulatory, technology, medical, financial and economic environments and requirements.
  2. Its trustees, committee members and CAMAF employees need to be constantly updated regarding activities of the healthcare industry, medical schemes, general business and economic conditions, their personal business knowledge and skill sets.
  3. Its trustees and committee members are non-executives and have their own business activities. In this regard they may do business with CAMAF suppliers by providing services and or products to or purchasing services and/or products from these suppliers.
  4. Conferences, workshops and update sessions are provided by financial institutions, asset managers, professional services and product and service providers some of whom may be currently suppliers to CAMAF. Attendance at these may be free or paid for by CAMAF, by the trustee or committee member or by their businesses.

Taking into account the above statements, trustees and committee members and CAMAF employees are encouraged to attend conferences, workshops and update sessions and promotional activities appropriate for the operational functionalities of CAMAF or their own business activities, even though these may be provided by CAMAF service suppliers. However, all airfares and overnight accommodation necessary for attending conferences, workshops, update sessions and promotional activities provided by CAMAF suppliers, must be paid for by CAMAF, by the trustee or committee member or by their businesses.

  • The Administrator
    This code shall be made known to the Administrator in order to establish whether the Administrator will comply with this Code of Conduct in the performance of the function the Administrator has been contracted to perform.
